W: Sam, have you decided on the pose for your sculpture?
M: Yes. The one holding her hands above her head.
W: Looks nice. Then can you help me choose mine?
M: How about this girl standing on one leg?
W: You mean the one spreading both of her arms?
M: No, the one skating on one foot arching her back.
W: It's not bad but I prefer the pose skating on one foot holding her other skate.
M: I see. That pose makes her look graceful like a swan.
W: It looks fine, but it can be difficult to make a sculpture with this pose.
M: Your skill is good enough. Don't worry.
W: OK. I'll go for it.

W: Jack! What's with the long face?
M: It's nothing, Mrs. Smith.
W: Oh, come on. What's the problem? Maybe I can be of help.
M: Well, It's just me.
W: What do you mean?
M: Well, I've studied so hard for my mid-term exam for the past two months. But my grades are still the same.
W: Jack! You've only been studying for a couple of months. If you keep working on it, you'll get good news for sure.
M: But I feel like it's the best I can do.
W: No, Jack. Trust me. I've seen a lot of students like you. Just keep working.
M: Do you really think I can do it?
W: Of course.
M: OK. Mrs. Smith. I'll keep it up, and I'll try harder.

M: This is a piece of writing. People write this to express their feelings or thoughts. This has words which are chosen for their sound and the images that they suggest, not just for their obvious meanings. The words are usually arranged in single lines. In general, this has a repeated rhythm for musical effects, and often the lines rhyme at the end. In fact, this varies in length from very short to long. This can be divided according to its theme such as a lyric, an epic and a drama in verse.

W: So why didn't my car start?
M: The battery was dead.
W: Really? That's the second time it has happened this month.
M: I recommend you replace the battery if it happens again.
W: OK, I will. I've been driving this car for 10 years. No wonder it's got this kind of trouble. Are there any other problems?
M: The front tires are a little worn.
W: Should they be replaced with new ones?
M: Not necessarily. Just rotate the front tires with the rear ones. That'll do for a couple of months.
W: Can you do it for me? Will it take long?
M: It'll take about 10 minutes.

M: It's been a long journey. My back has been aching the whole way.
W: Me, too. What time are we supposed to arrive in Seoul?
M: According to the driver, around 2 as long as there are no traffic jams.
W: I think we'd better have an early lunch here.
M: How many minutes do we have before the bus leaves?
W: The driver said we have to get back on the bus by 11:20.
M: Twenty minutes is too short for a break. We should get something to eat on the bus.
W: Seems like we have no other option.
M: That sandwich looks delicious. Would you like one?
W: Yes. Can you buy one for me? I need to go to the restroom first.
M: No problem. Let's meet on the bus.

M: I missed my flight to New York because of the terrible traffic. I just don't know what to do.
W: May I see your ticket, please? [Pause] With this ticket, you can get a refund, or I can arrange another flight at no extra charge if you'd like.
M: Excellent. Could you check the time for the next flight, please?
W: Yes. It's at 11:30.
M: Oh, that's perfect. Could you put me on the passengers' list, please?
W: Certainly, sir.
M: Whew, thanks. Now that I have some time before the flight, can you tell me where the gift shops are?
W: Yes. They're just around the corner.

W: Thousands of dogs are abandoned every year and are in need of a new home and family. Are you interested in adopting a dog? Here are the things you need to think about in advance. Is a dog the right pet for you? Can you afford a dog including the costs of food and visits to the vet? Have you got time to take care of a dog? You need to make sure someone will look after the dog if you're sick or go away. What if one of your family members is allergic to dogs? You also have to keep in mind that dogs need affection as well as basic care. They want a family who'll never abandon them again.

M: How come? Do you still have difficulty getting along with your coworker, Tom?
W: Not at all. We just had different opinions on the project. Nothing personal between him and me.
M: You tell me you have too much to do at work sometimes. Is that the reason?
W: I used to but not any more. Actually, I've got a really nice offer from Kings Public High School.
M: Awesome! You've always wanted to teach students in a school.
W: I have. They asked me to teach English literature to the second year students.
M: Why are you hesitating? You can't miss this chance.
W: Do you think so? Okay. I've made up my mind now.

W: I'm thinking of Pre-Shop.
M: It's the most expensive. Choose Yep 21. It offers the lowest price.
W: I know, but there's none in stock.
M: Oh, I see. Then... Sun-Zone has stock.
W: Yes, but their delivery takes five days. I want to get it earlier.
M: OK. What about C-Bay or Inter-Mall? It takes three to four days.
W: Well, I just want it to be delivered as soon as possible. I'd like to start studying before class starts in two days.
M: OK. It's up to you.

W: This is 'Voice Of Students.' I'm your host Linda Joe. Today we have a special guest. Please welcome Hugh Jonas, president of the Students' International Film Festival.
M: Hi, everybody.
W: Thanks for coming on the program. I hear this festival is the world's largest annual film festival for students. How long have you been doing this?
M: Well, we're in our twelfth year.
W: Wow, how many films are planned to be screened this year?
M: There'll be 103 films from 63 countries.
W: What are some of the must-see films you recommend?
M: It's difficult to choose among them. However, if pushed, I'd say Brave Angels made by students from Ghana. It's about endangered species in Africa.
W: Sounds interesting. When does the festival begin?
M: It starts this coming Friday, April 22nd.

M: Not at all. I had nothing to declare.
W: Then, what happened?
M: The guy right ahead of me had so much food in his luggage. Dried seaweed, cup noodles, red pepper paste, kimchi... You name it, he had it.
W: Really? What did the customs officers do?
M: They had to check every single item, which took quite a long time.
W: Oh, how unfortunate! Let's get out of here and try some local food.

W: I don't really understand computers.
M: You don't have to. It's just about communicating.
W: Oh, I don't know. I think nothing can replace face-to-face relationships.
M: You should check it out. It's a great way to stay in touch.
W: Maybe I should give it a try. How do I do it?
M: I'll show you step by step. Where's your computer?

W: How much are those?
M: 100 dollars for Special seats and 150 dollars for Box seats.
W: Can I reserve two Special seats, please? My mom and I are members of ABC. We don't have to pay the full price, do we?
M: Right. For members, there's a 10% discount.
W: Great. One more thing. My mom's a senior citizen. Can we get an additional discount?
M: Actually, we give a 5 dollar discount for those over 60. However, we don't give a double discount.
W: OK. Can I give you my card details?

W: Welcome to Travel News. Are you planning to go on a backpacking trip? Here are my tips for packing your backpack. First, in case the weather is rainy, it's better to put anything of value, books and electronics in plastic zippered bags. When you put things in your backpack, put larger and heavier items at the bottom. You should also consider how often you will need certain items. Put the items you use most often on the top. Plus, your backpack should be no more than 75% full. Otherwise, you'll have to carry extra bags with gifts and souvenirs along the way. Stick to one bag if possible. If you're able to walk around lightly, your trip will be much better. The better you are prepared, the more you'll enjoy your trip. Good Luck!

W: I mean things like a helmet, arm guards and knee pads.
M: I don't need that kind of stuff. I've done this since I was a little kid.
W: An accident can happen to anyone at anytime. You can't be too careful.
M: But those things are so uncomfortable.
W: Haven't you heard about James's injury?
M: What happened to him?
W: He broke his wrist while he was in-line skating without his arm guards.
M: No way. I can't believe it.

W: Ah, now I remember it. It's "Blue Sky" by the Tornadoes.
M: The title is right, but the band is the Rocket Boys not the Tornadoes.
W: They probably remade the old song. It was very popular in my day as well.
M: That's interesting! Actually, I didn't use to like old songs, but it seems that they're not all bad after all.

W: I agree. From now on, I won't let the water run while I brush my teeth or while I do the dishes.
M: Yes. Also, we must only run the washing machine when it is full.
W: That's right. Ah, honey? Why don't we replace our old toilet with a more water-efficient model?

W: Rachel and her best friend went on a one-week package tour to Greece. The first three days were great, but the fourth day was different. Her friend wanted to go to the morning street market at 7 a.m. but Rachel was very tired and decided not to go. Instead, they agreed to meet before the museum tour at 10. When Rachel got up, it was already 9:40. She was afraid of not making it on time, so she had to leave the room in a hurry. However, when they both got back to the hotel after the museum tour, Rachel couldn't find the key to their room. Then she remembered leaving the room without the key. In this situation, what will Rachel probably say to her friend?
